This re-release of Gerald Donald's remixes for Albert van Abbe, including an original track and a new bonus track, is accompanied by an artwork created by visual artist Erwin Thomasse.
Thomasse's work is known to challenge your perceptions and stimulate thought, and this one is no exception. For this re-release, he provokes a still from a video's captivating Narration.
The video, from which the still was taken, tells the story of a splinter group on their way to a violent assault. The van's open back doors reveal a cache of weapons, the result of a police raid that leads to further controversy. The video went viral, sparking heated debate and divergent perspectives on the events depicted.
Some will view the artwork, titled Discord, as a powerful commentary on the state of our society, while others may relate to and sympathise with the act, due to its polarising effect. Other individuals could have no personal investment or inclination to delve into its deeper meaning and remain detached from it all.
In a world where complexities often remain unspoken, where silence envelopes issues that should be awoken. The re-release signals us to engage, converse, and share, to explore the depths of meaning.
The beauty of art is meant to provoke thought and stimulate critical conversation, and this piece has done that.
The re-release is a testament to the timeless nature of music and its ability to transcend boundaries and challenge our perceptions. Each re-release will contain two pieces of the artwork to illuminate the significance of the differences between the two artists.
